Before you head out on your vacation, here are some helpful tips to prepare your home to ensure a smooth transition for your housesitters. There are many more points we go through before the hand-off, but here are some key points!

- Provide housesitters with a spare key if needed
- Make sure your house is reasonably clean
- Dispose of or freeze perishable food, or let housesitters know they can consume it if it will spoil before your return
- Clear out space in the fridge, cupboards, and closet
- Keep your valuables secure by storing them in a safe place or with a trusted friend
- Put fragile items away to prevent accidents and let housesitters know about any delicate cups or dishes
- Stock up on enough supplies your pet would need for the housesitting duration (food, toys, treats, etc.) and leave adequate cash if you request housesitters to purchase pet supplies OR in case of an emergency. Many petowners prefer to have tabs at the vet
- Consider informing neighbors of the housesitters' presence to prevent potential misunderstandings
- Provide a copy of your travel itinerary
- Ensure utility bills are up-to-date or automatic payments are set up
