FAQ Cat
Here are some responses to questions you may have:
Why do you want to housesit?
We have been traveling for over 10 years. We are no longer backpackers - moving from city to another every few days. Rather, we stay for longer in each place and like to feel like we live there. We are not really interested in major tourist attractions either. We just like being in new environments. Given our nomadic lifestyle, we cannot have pets. We LOVE animals and really miss having pets, but housesitting allows us to have the joy of taking care of animals for some time. It is a win-win to be able to save on accommodation while pet-owners can save on pet boarding, so we have found housesitting to be a wonderful and interesting way to explore new parts of the world.
We do not see housesitting as just a way to travel for free. We take this job seriously as it is a big responsibility and it requires a high level of trust for both parties. We prioritize your pets over any sightseeing and do not leave the pets alone all day (unless they are independent cats and the owner specifically gives permission to leave for several hours at a time).

Where do you work?
Lianne does admin work for a logistics company in the US among other side hustles in writing and e-commerce. Adam is a book editor, moonlighting as an information security consultant for the layman. He is also handy around the house and volunteers helping rebuild homes after natural disasters with his Dad. While traveling, we have found great enjoyment in volunteering, and while housesitting, we like to use our time to work on various projects and personal development as we're constant dabblers.
Do you drive?
Yes. We have over 20 years of clean driving records and valid US licenses and international driving permits. Adam also has over a decade of experience riding motorcycles and scooters of all sizes and is at least a novice at driving stick-shift, if needed in an emergency.
Are you cat-people or dog-people?
Lianne grew up with cats and hamsters and Adam was an ardent dog-person for more than 30 years, practically loathing cats. As a shock to no one here reading this now, he surprised himself, fully transitioning into a cat-person once we cared for our cats, Espy and Ilini, during our time in the Peace Corps. While we might now call ourselves cat-people, we love dogs too and have experience caring for all sizes and ages of dogs.
What do you do in your free time?
We lead simple lifestyles and enjoy being outside and active - whether it's running, hiking, or bicycling. We also like to relax by playing chess, watercolor painting, cooking vegetarian cuisine (that's Lianne, Adam does the dishes), walking to parks, listening to podcasts/audiobooks. In Korea, we were active members of the community - whether it's baking for local causes, organizing Freecycle events, hosting free art booths, writing/proofreading for the Gwangju News magazine, or co-founding the #CleanGwangju initiative together, to clean litter from our city's streets.
Do you do short-term or long-term housesitting?
We can do both. It depends on our travel plans and other commitments, but we are willing to do both short-term and long-term housesitting. Our shortest housesit was 1 night and longest was 3 months. At this moment, we give priority for longer term housesits of at least two weeks, but we will consider shorter housesits to fill in gaps in between assignments or last-minute jobs.
Do you smoke?
We don't. (But please do let us know if you do in your home.)
Do you drink?
May have one or two drinks every few weeks, but we are not partiers. Lately, we haven't drank for months and that's fine.
What are your rates?
Since we housesit all around the world, rates vary based on a variety of factors: type of pet, number of pets, local rates, length of stay, local facilities, cost of living, etc. We are happy to work with you to provide the best quality care for the value based on the going rates locally.
Most of the time, we work for free in exchange for accommodation while we are traveling. We are happy to adhere to necessary duties to keep the pets happy and healthy. We will keep your home clean and secure. While we are happy to water plants and do simple yard maintenance as well as mowing lawns, if the work extends beyond normal duties of an unpaid housesit (e.g., several hours a week of yard work), please consider hiring a professional to maintain extensive gardens.
We also offer additional services (unrelated to housesitting) such as pet portrait photography, websites, consulting (small business & travel), as well as proofreading and copy-editing.

You are strangers. How can we trust you?
Fair question. We completely understand any hesitations you may have to leave your beloved pets and home in the hands of strangers; we would ask the same questions. Well, we do have over 100 references to our character from our experiences CouchSurfing, volunteering with help exchanges, several housesits in Australia, and from being hosts ourselves (We love hosting!). You are welcome to speak directly with some of them (who have graciously agreed) by phone or e-mail.
We have also been English teachers in South Korean public schools. The Korean government is very strict about foreigners working in public schools and only allows individuals with clean background checks. So we each got an official background check by the FBI, notarization, and then an official apostille from Washington D.C.
Additionally, we recently served with the United States Peace Corps from 2018-2020, and again from 2022-2023, a government organization that requires a clean federal background check. Previously, Adam also worked in the Obama White House, necessitating another even more extensive background check.
Also, we would love to video chat beforehand and spend some time together before you leave, if possible.

What is the process to have you housesit for me?
First, keep exploring this site and then reach out to us with some details about your location, pets, general dates, and perhaps photos of your home or pets if you are comfortable sharing.
If we have availability for your dates and we are able to travel to you, we will set up a video call to learn how we can help and see if we are a mutually good fit.
Once we agree on dates, we will ask you to fill out some forms regarding your pets, your home, and some of our policies.
The date of our arrival depends on your preference as well as our schedule. Sometimes homeowners prefer we arrive after their departure and sometimes we arrive the day before departure. We are comfortable with both. We prefer to get to know each other, perhaps go on a walk with you and the dogs to see your normal walking routes, or be shown around, etc., but also are adaptable and can show up after your departure as long as we go through the above information in detail before.
During the housesit, we will maintain clear and frequent communication depending on your requests. Some homeowners ask for daily photos and some only once a week. Just let us know! We do ask that you are easily available via WhatsApp / Signal or email so we can quickly contact you in case of an emergency.

Anne and I were very happy to have you look after our house and our lovely cat Sascha while we got away from Sydney for the weekend. We found you a very charming and interesting couple, but the important thing was that you did a first class job. You were both very willing and capable, and obviously have a natural affinity for animals. Sascha took an immediate liking to you. We returned to find the house in apple pie order and Sascha snug, smug and well fed. What more could we ask? - Bob and Anne
